Text Description of SAFE Routes Plan *
(1) Using your school map divided into zones, provide a written description, below, of the best routes for students to walk or bike to school. (2) This description should be sent home to parents along with your maps. (3) Be sure to include a statement that discourages students who qualify for hazardous busing from walking/biking to school on an unsafe route.
- Area West of Laura Anne Way and East of 700 East:
- Students should follow their neighborhood roads to 700 East. From 700 East students should walk south along 700 East until they reach the intersection of 700 East and Sego Lily. From Sego Lily students should walk east along Sego Lily until they reach Eastmont.
- From the Bell View Elementary Area:
- Students should follow their neighborhood roads to 700 East. From 700 East students should walk south along 700 east until they reach the intersection of 700 East and Sego Lily. From Sego Lily students should walk east along Sego Lily until they reach Eastmont.
- From the Edgemont Elementary Area:
- Students should walk south of the their neighborhood until they reach Sego Lily and then walk east along Sego Lily until they reach Eastmont.
- From the Flint Drive Area:
- Students should access Flint Drive from their neighborhood and follow it to 1200 East via 9930 South, Electra Lane or Turquoise Lane. Following 1200 East students will access the North Side of Eastmont by the lower fields.
- From the Willow Canyon Elementary Area:
- Students should follow neighborhood streets south to 9800 South. Students should then walk west along 9800 South rounding Petunia Way until they reach the intersection of Buttercup Drive and Petunia Way. From here, students should use marked crosswalks or sidewalks through the Sandy Public Library parking-lot to access the skybridge. After crossing the skybridge students should use the sidewalk on the west side of 1300 East to access Eastmont.
- From the Park Lane Elementary Area:
- Students should access 9800 South or Gyrfalcon Drive (10000 South). From 9800 South students should then walk west along 9800 South rounding Petunia Way until they reach the intersection of Buttercup Drive and Petunia Way. From here, students should use marked crosswalks or sidewalks through the Sandy Public Library parking-lot to access the skybridge. After crossing the skybridge students should use the sidewalk on the west side of 1300 East to access Eastmont.
- For students following Gyrfalcon Drive (10000 South), they need to walk west along Gyrfalcon and continue onto Abbedale Lane. Upon reaching the intersection of Abbedale and Countrywood Drive, students should walk south along Countrywood until reaching the intersection of Countrywood and Buttercup Drive. Students should walk along Buttercup Drive until they reach the intersection of Buttercup Drive and Petunia Way. From here, students should use marked crosswalks or sidewalks through the Sandy Public Library parking lot to access the skybridge. After crossing the skybridge students should use the sidewalk on the west side of 1300 East to access Eastmont.
- From the Alta View Elementary Area:
- Students should avoid walking through Dimple Dell Regional Park. Students can access Eastmont Middle School by either walking west using neighborhood roads until they reach 700 East. From 700 East they can walk north until they reach Sego Lily Drive and then walk east along Sego Lily until they reach Eastmont. The other option is for students to walk east using neighborhood roads until they reach Primrose Drive. Walking south along Primrose Drive students can access 10600 South. From here students can access 1300 East. From 1300 East students can walk north along 1300 East until they reach Sego Lily. To access Eastmont student should use appropriate crosswalks at 9800 South and Sego Lily.
- From the Dimple Dell North Area:
- Students should access Sego Lily Drive. They should walk west along Sego Lily until Petunia Way intersects with Sego Lily Drive. Students should walk north along Petunia Way until they reach the Sandy Library parking lot. From here, students should use marked crosswalks or sidewalks through the Sandy Public Library parking lot to access the skybridge. After crossing the skybridge students should use the sidewalk on the west side of 1300 East to access Eastmont.
